Alex Karalexis Loses to Ratcliff.

12/12/2007

Alex Karalexis came up short against Ed Ratcliff in their battle for the #1 contender's spot in the lightweight division. Despite his guillotine choke attacks in the first, Alex escaped the round after being dropped by a hard right. He never fully recovered and in the second round was knocked to the canvas by a Ratcliff left hook. Ratcliff followed up with more blows until the ref stepped in to end the fight. No doubt Alex will be back on the hunt for the lightweight belt in no time!

Karalexis Sees Through it!

06/04/2007

Looking at Alex “The Assassin” Karalexis' face after his first bout as a WEC lightweight might have made you think he lost the bout. Instead, Alex, who suffered a punishing right hook that rocked him during the opening seconds of the bout, dominated the event from bell to bell by scoring his fourth straight victory and remained undefeated in the WEC when he beat Josh Smith at the Hard Rock Hotel. On what will surely be a highlight reel moment for the ages, after Smith slapped a triangle choke on Karalexis in the second round, Karalexis showed tremendous power by lifting Smith to shoulder level, carried him across the cage and slammed him into the mat. However, it was Karalexis' strikes and his ground-and-pound attack that led the way. This bout should place Alex in line as one of the top contenders to the WEC Lightweight Championship, which Alex looks to wrap around his waist very soon.
